The Dude is away this week. He and 10 other men have descended to a sprawling 110 acre camp in Pennsylvania, for a weekend of drinking, male bonding and catching up with old friends, as well as making some new friends.
The host, and owner of this slice of Heaven is an old colleague, a (now retired) sales leader. The Dude has worked with him off and on for over 15 years, so it is a long friendship. Several of the other campers are also people the Dude worked with over the same period, people more associated with the "sales" role.
Around a Roaring camp fire, one of the Dude's former colleagues, whom he hadn't seen in over 8 years, blurted out that the Dude was one of the best product managers he has ever worked with, and the revolving door of flunkies that have rolled through that role since the Dude departed in 2009, made him appreciate how a good product manager makes life as a salesman much better.
It is not the first time the Dude has heard this, but it does make his pride swell.
