A new one for the Dude

Today, he heard a phrase that made him chuckle. There is a group that the Dude has to work with, that is chartered with the responsibility of market analysis, strategic planning and execution.

The team that was assembled was almost entirely of fresh college graduates. As you might imagine, this causes some problems, as they are good at busy work, but they really don't know what they are doing, or our business. So, they require significant oversight and guidance.

However, this group was formed and staffed not as a vehicle to bring in young talent, pair them with sage veterans, and grow them into the role. No, that would make too much sense. They were brought in because they were cheap. Fresh-outs, no experience, bring them in at a very low pay grade, and keep them in the trenches.

The new one for the Dude, is that a local peer calls them "The Pre-School Posse", as they are innocent pawns, used to grow a mid level executive's empire, and add headcount. For 1/3 the cost of a qualified mid-career professional marketing researcher, you can hire a young, malleable, blank slate.

Unfortunately, when you build a group of a dozen or so of these early in career people, and put a manager over them who is a micro-managing control freak, have them be in charge of your marketing strategy and research operation, you're gonna have a bad time.

Pre-School Posse. Perfect term. Tragic consequences.
